The current concern with environmental issues by the scientific community, governmental and civil society also brings out the need to recover, preserve and conserve the environment. With this understanding, this work was prepared, which had as one of the main objectives of the historical process of land use and occupancy of the Pontal, since the nineteenth century to the present day. From this, the changes were evident in the types of land use, which rose from native forest to plant crops (permanent and temporary crops) and later as pasture. Through this process of occupation, exploitation of forests and replacement even three, Reserves being brought from the Far West Paulista, through the state government of Sao Paulo, they were almost decimated. Such areas decreed by law to be preserved and conserved, with the rampant occupations, were suffocated by the fakes and illegal occupation of land tenure contracts, leaving the region currently only a few forest fragments and protected areas of State Park Morro do Diabo, PRNP Boa Vista and Ecological Station Black Lion Tamarin. Furthermore, the article emphasizes the main legislation being developed by federal and state levels aimed at protecting natural resources and the effectiveness they had with the passage of time, demonstrating that the conservation of the environment, has several contributions in the law, however, and they are so vast that hinder its application.

One of the most important strategies for biodiversity conservation is the establishment of protected areas, which protect areas important for the survival of several species. The park “Parque Natural Municipal Cachoeira da Marta”, located in Botucatu, São Paulo, is a unit of strictly protected area and aims to conserve the ecosystems and the biodiversity that exists in the area. The park has a management plan, but this does not include a survey of mammals present in the area, which is relevant as the group has a high degree of threat and a huge ecological importance. Thus, this study aimed to conduct a quick survey of terrestrial mammals of medium and large through the methodology of sand plots, with 25 plots distributed in five areas throughout the park. We recorded 4 orders, 6 families and 9 species (Nasua Nasua, Eira Barbara, Procyon cancrivorous, Leopardus pardalis, Leopardus sp., Dasypus novemcinctus, Tamandua tetradctyla, and Cavia aperea Myrmecophaga tridactyla). Most animals marked are generalist feeding habits, but it was also reported the presence of species more demanding regarding the quality of the habitat

Recently, the environmental concern has grown due to the higher awareness about the availability and the importance of natural resources for survival on the Earth. So, laws and regulations were implemented aiming the environmental preservation. It has being developed new systems, technologies and techniques in order to minimize wastage of resources and minimize waste generation that may cause environmental impacts, in order to abide by the laws and regulations. These techniques and systems have been developed mostly for the industrial sector, because it’s one of the most responsible for the waste generation and impacts. One of the most employed systems is the environmental management, performed during the environmental diagnosis of the area/activity. So, this study aimed the environmental assessment and the establishment of proposals for the mitigation of the most significant environmental impacts generated in five industries of the Antonio Crepaldi industrial district – Presidente Prudente, in order to contribute to environmental issues and provide greater efficiency in the productive process of these industries... Recentemente, a temática ambiental tem sido caracterizada como um dos temas mais abrangentes, nesse sentido, o tema degradação ambiental tem se constituído em um problema tanto da geração que nos constituiu quanto da geração que nos sucederão. Podemos afirmar que o modelo de desenvolvimento econômico adotado em inúmeros paises, inclusive no Brasil, baseado no consumo e na exploração dos recursos naturais tem contribuído para a persistência dos problemas relacionados a degradação ambiental. Tendo em vista, esse contexto e a importância dos meios de comunicação em especial às revistas de divulgação científica. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo responder as seguintes questões norteadoras: Quais os problemas relacionados à temática ambiental, particularmente, os problemas relativos à degradação ambiental, são veiculados na Revista Ciência Hoje (CH)?Os temas e os problemas relativos à degradação ambiental são trabalhados de modo a contemplar as controvérsias socioambientais? Em caso positivo quais controvérsias socioambientais são veiculadas? Consistiram na investigação da abordagem da temática ambiental na Revista Ciência Hoje particularmente, os problemas relativos à degradação ambiental. A Ciência Hoje, criada em 1982, a partir do Projeto Ciência Hoje responsável pelas publicações de divulgação cientifica da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC) entidade civil sem fins lucrativos e que tem como objetivo promover o desenvolvimento tecnológico no Brasil. Dessa forma realizou-se uma pesquisa documental, cujo corpus documental foi constituído por 161 exemplares da CH publicados nos anos de 1990-2005. A metodologia utilizada na analise dos artigos da Revista foi a “Análise de Conteúdo” proposta por Bardin (1991). O presente trabalho discute a relação sociedade e natureza a partir do estudo de caso dos processos erosivos identificados em um recorte espacial, localizado no Noroeste do município de Regente Feijó/SP. As dinâmicas socioeconômicas que se processaram no Oeste Paulista e, consequentemente, no município de Regente Feijó, ao longo das décadas de ocupação, são evidências das lógicas de apropriação ancoradas em pressupostos de exploração massiva dos recursos naturais, tendo em vista a produção de gêneros agrícolas valorizados no mercado internacional, tais como o café, o algodão e a cana-de-açúcar. Além disso, a pecuária também se constituiu como importante base econômica regional e, somada aos demais usos agrícolas, contribuiu para o depauperamento dos solos, o assoreamento dos cursos d’água e o surgimento de erosões (laminares e lineares) nas áreas rurais e urbanas. Neste sentido, além da discussão envolvendo os problemas desencadeados pelo agravamento dos processos erosivos aos pequenos produtores rurais e aos moradores do Distrito de Espigão, é evidenciada a importância das práticas conservacionistas como forma de contingenciamento de tais fenômenos

There is a demand to incorporate the nature in the city in order to meet the wishes of the entire population. The valuation of water, a key component of the quality of the landscape, becomes a key element in this context both for its ecological potential because of their potential for recreational activities. The areas that suffer most impacts are the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) and this paper will be a weighting on the urban interface - PPA. With the study area the basin of the stream of Limoeiro, in the context of the Friendship Fountain Balneary, especially the source contained between residential neighborhoods Maré Mansa and Parque Imperial, the city of Presidente Prudente and Álvares Machado, Sao Paulo, this paper aims to search and use of knowledge about technologies and techniques of environmental restoration, with emphasis on bioengineering, through an environmental characterization of the basin, with a view the incorporation of nature in the lives of the urban population. The methodology includes: literature review priority issues related to the PPAs, linear parks, relevant environmental legislation, environmental characterization of the watershed of the stream Limoeiro; study of technologies and techniques for environmental remediation of soil bioengineering and implementation of parks linear, development of proposals for the environmental recovery of PPA in the basin of the stream Limoeiro, focusing on emerging... Solar energy can be considered the largest source of energy available on earth and has attracted in recent decades, attention and interest for its rational use. The use of energy sources in a sustainable way is essential to the survival of future generations, due to the scarcity of natural resources and their exploitation in a disorderly way. This academic work aims to bring a possible alternative to reduce the consumption of eletrical energy, at the University of Engineering – Campus of Guaratinguetá, through the use of a photovoltaic system interconnected to the LED bulbs. For this, the necessary data for the design of the photovoltaic system componentes and their acquisition costs were obtained and three differents configurations were developed to choose the one that bests fits the studied case, considering the return time of the initial investment (payback)

A preocupação ambiental é crescente em praticamente todas as áreas do conhecimento. A miríade de abordagens do tema “meio ambiente” dentro da Ciência Econômica revela a premência do assunto bem como a distância do consenso. Assim, apesar da complexidade intrínseca ao sistema capitalista quando da sua inter-relação com os recursos naturais, poluição e biodiversidade, o presente trabalho propõe a análise da obsolescência prematura deliberada dos produtos como estratégia para impulsionar as vendas e sua relação com o meio ambiente bem como a observação de estratégias para a inibição dessa prática que promove o aumento do consumo - nem sempre consciente - dos recursos naturais em nome do lucro imediatista e gera quantidades cada vez maiores de resíduos e poluentes

A xilana, o segundo principal componente da parede celular vegetal, pertence ao grupo das hemiceluloses, sendo composta por diferentes carboidratos, principalmente xilose e arabinose. Na natureza, devido a sua heterogeneidade estrutural, este complexo polissacarídeo é completamente hidrolisado pela ação sinergística de diferentes enzimas, incluindo xilanases e β-xilosidases, responsáveis pela degradação da sua cadeia principal e outras enzimas chamadas auxiliares ou desramificantes, importantes para remoção dos grupos laterais. Dentre estas últimas, destacam-se as α-L-arabinofuranosidases, enzimas responsáveis pela remoção de resíduos L-arabinofuranosil do polímero. As arabinofuranosidases podem ser produzidas por micro-organismos, como bactérias e fungos, sendo essencialmente enzimas extracelulares. Fungos, especialmente os de solo e madeira, têm sido utilizados para produção de enzimas xilanolíticas, sendo particularmente interessantes do ponto de vista industrial, pelo fato de secretarem suas enzimas diretamente no meio em que se encontram não necessitando de ruptura celular para a liberação das mesmas. Além disso, apresentam níveis de produção mais elevados que os obtidos em culturas bacterianas ou de leveduras. A crescente preocupação com a escassez dos recursos naturais e com a degradação ambiental tem levado à busca por tecnologias mais eficientes, mais competitivas e menos poluentes. Atualmente, muitos processos industriais empregam enzimas microbianas, apresentando inúmeras vantagens em relação às técnicas convencionais. As α-L-arabinofuranosidases podem ser utilizadas individualmente ou em combinação com outras enzimas, representando uma ferramenta promissora para aplicação em diversos processos biotecnológicos como no branqueamento da polpa celulósica, na síntese de oligossacarídeos, na produção de etanol de segunda geração, ou ainda...(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo)

In the last years, environmental issues are being gradually addressed because of awareness regarding the limitation of natural resources for the maintenance of life on Earth, and the role played by the media in reporting on various issues that are related to the theme. In the industrial sector, this topic becomes ever more present in its planning. With the increase of production activities, the generation of waste causes many complications, both in industry and in the environment. For this reason laws and rules were created so that such problems are minimized, thus causing less impact on the environment. In this work was a study of the possible environmental impacts in a soybean crushing industry, situated in the city of Osvaldo Cruz, São Paulo state, detailing the sources and impacts of waste generation, and associate them relevant laws. From this, measures were proposed measures of adequacy involving compliance with commitments to environmental agencies, relevant requests of buyers and / or suppliers and improving environmental performance

The projects of the company Vale SA territorialization triggers a series of territorial determinations on local populations. This process denotes a situation of sociospatial conflicts between the affected people and the company, which occur in the material and symbolical scope. In the expansion of these conflicts is established the International Articulation of those Affected by Vale and the “Movimento de Soberania Popular Frente a Mineração” (MAM) which aims to promote communication and unification of the struggles between different social movements and populations on confrontation with the company. This project aims to examine how these conflicts are established in projects relating to mining operations in Brazil. Worldwide environmental degradation is an undesirable byproduct resulting from the increasing demand for natural resources. Water sources are suffering intense contamination since they usually receive a huge amount of domestic and industrial effluents - which are mostly wasted without proper treatment - inserting a large number of pollutants in the environment, heavy metals included. Mercury holds great toxicological importance because, under some physicochemical conditions in a water environment, Hg (II) ion turns into methylated compounds stemming from this element, such as methylmercury CH3Hg, which is highly toxic for the aquatic community in which bioaccumulation occurs. Nowadays passive sampling techniques are being developed to enable the analytical procedures which are applied in environmental monitoring. Diffusive gradients in thin-films technique (DGT) has been proven an interesting tool for the determination of labile metal species due to its in situ application. The DGT technique consists of a piston-like device on which the following series of agents is disposed: a binding agent (conventionally Chelex 100 resin), a diffusive agent, usually a polyacrylamide gel, and a membrane filter. Nevertheless, the agents conventinally used for this technique don't usually show satisfactory results in mercury sampling. The main goal of this study was to evaluate the phosphate-treated cellulose membrane (Whatman P 81), an alternative material, as binding agent in the DGT to determine labile mercury fractions in aquatic systems. In this context, we conducted a study of the behavior of this material in relation with system variables, pH and ionic strength. Afterwards we performed immersions of the DGT devices in real and enriched samples and in situ aiming the determination of mercury

The neoliberalism based on the Washington Consensus advised privatization as the most effective alternative for the management of natural resources. The question is what is prioritizing efficiency, market or welfare? The growing concern about the water issue has been highlighted in discussions in international policy debates, and what it turns out is the prominence of corporate and economic interests over social and environmental. The water is in crisis, there are several sources of popular conflicts around the world contrary to how this resource is being offered, as the Water War occurred in 2000 in the city of Cochabamba. It is necessary to respect its limitations to ensure their future availability and choose the best development model that favors the effectiveness of their control. The international proliferation of commercial vision concerning water stipulated privatization of their management as ideal rule, which increased rates, concentrated income, has not improved the quality nor promoted the conquest of equal access to water for most systems that provides these services, this is, privatization has not brought positive results that outweigh the harm of its implementation. Water is an essential commodity for life of living beings, in all its stages, basic reason to develop plans, rules and commitments that ensure its conservation and provide, as soon as possible, a valid alternative for the sustainable management in long term

This paper aims at comparing the national and international incentive policies in energy efficiency investment and presenting the main trends, measures adopted and economical and environmental results obtained, as well as possible improvements and expansions of these programs. This analysis is justified by the current moment, not only of the Brazilian Power Systems (SEB) but also of the global power systems with the constant increase of demand and depletion of natural resources implying in a need of a better use of them and of the power they generate, which directly affects the losses on the generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of energy, in addition to reducing the impacts on the environment. At last but not least, through this study it was possible to gleam not only at new possible ways for these programs, but also failures and inefficiencies that can be improved in the measures currently being used
