A new sliding mode-based learning control scheme for a class of SISO dynamic systems is developed in this paper. It is seen that, based on the most recent information on the closed-loop stability, a recursive learning chattering-free sliding mode controller can be designed to drive the closed-loop dynamics to reach the sliding mode surface in a finite time, on which the desired closed-loop dynamics with the zero-error convergence can be achieved.

This paper presents design and fabrication of a microbioreactor platform, and implementation of two temperature control methods (i.e. on-off and PID) and their performance evaluation on the microbioreactor platform (working volume ~300 μL). The temperature of the microbioreactor content is controlled by using a subminiature heater placed underneath the microbioreactor and is measured with a miniature Pt 100 sensor. The microbioreactor is also integrated with a magnetic stirring capacity and a water evaporation control scheme. Programs for the two temperature control methods are written in LabVIEW software and implemented by interfacing them with a data acquisition card. It is shown that by implementing on–off and PID temperature control methods, the temperature of the microbioreactor content can be tightly controlled with an accuracy of approximately ±0.5 °C of the set point values. Both control methods also provide a good response and settling time values (i.e. around 2 min). Contrary to the on/off control method, the PID control method requires no adjustments whenever the set-point values are modified. The PID temperature control method works well for the entire tested range.

In this paper, an agent-based distributed control scheme is presented to control single-phase parallel inverters in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to microgrids. A communication assisted multi-agent framework is developed within microgrids where agents perform their tasks in a distributed manner with an aim of stabilizing load voltage and current under normal and faulted conditions through the asymptotic tracking of the reference current signal. The distributed agent-based control scheme requires information from the neighboring agents through communication network to decide control actions. The proposed control scheme utilizes Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N) tuning approach to design proportional integral (PI) controllers for controlling inverters within the multi-agent system (MAS). A microgrid with parallel inverter-connected solar PV systems is considered for simulations under normal and faulted conditions where results show the excellency of the proposed agent-based scheme in comparison to the conventional scheme without MAS.

In the cloud, data is usually stored in ciphertext for security. Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is a popular solution for allowing legal data users to access encrypted data, but it has high overhead and is vulnerable to data leakage. The authors propose an anonymous authorization credential and Lagrange interpolation polynomial-based access control scheme in which an access privilege and one secret share are applied for reconstructing the user's decryption key. Because the credential is anonymously bounded with its owner, only the legal authorized user can access and decrypt the encrypted data without leaking any private information.

Recently, two international standard organizations, ISO and OGC, have done the work of standardization for GIS. Current standardization work for providing interoperability among GIS DB focuses on the design of open interfaces. But, this work has not considered procedures and methods for designing river geospatial data. Eventually, river geospatial data has its own model. When we share the data by open interface among heterogeneous GIS DB, differences between models result in the loss of information. In this study a plan was suggested both to respond to these changes in the information envirnment and to provide a future Smart River-based river information service by understanding the current state of river geospatial data model, improving, redesigning the database. Therefore, primary and foreign key, which can distinguish attribute information and entity linkages, were redefined to increase the usability. Database construction of attribute information and entity relationship diagram have been newly redefined to redesign linkages among tables from the perspective of a river standard database. In addition, this study was undertaken to expand the current supplier-oriented operating system to a demand-oriented operating system by establishing an efficient management of river-related information and a utilization system, capable of adapting to the changes of a river management paradigm.

The dengue virus is an arbovirus transmitted to humans through mosquito Aedes aegypti. To describe the dynamics of dengue disease within these two populations we develop a compartment model taking into account chemical controls and mechanical control applied on the mosquitoes, which are the currently available controlling mechanisms to prevent dengue disease. To mimic seasonal variations, some parameters of the model are allowed to depend on time in order to divide a calendar year in favorable and unfavorable periods regarded to the development of vector population.

Dengue is considered one of the most important vector-borne infection, affecting almost half of the world population with 50 to 100 million cases every year. In this paper, we present one of the simplest models that can encapsulate all the important variables related to vector control of dengue fever. The model considers the human population, the adult mosquito population and the population of immature stages, which includes eggs, larvae and pupae. The model also considers the vertical transmission of dengue in the mosquitoes and the seasonal variation in the mosquito population. From this basic model describing the dynamics of dengue infection, we deduce thresholds for avoiding the introduction of the disease and for the elimination of the disease. In particular, we deduce a Basic Reproduction Number for dengue that includes parameters related to the immature stages of the mosquito. By neglecting seasonal variation, we calculate the equilibrium values of the model’s variables. We also present a sensitivity analysis of the impact of four vector-control strategies on the Basic Reproduction Number, on the Force of Infection and on the human prevalence of dengue. Each of the strategies was studied separately from the others. The analysis presented allows us to conclude that of the available vector control strategies, adulticide application is the most effective, followed by the reduction of the exposure to mosquito bites, locating and destroying breeding places and, finally, larvicides. Current vector-control methods are concentrated on mechanical destruction of mosquitoes’ breeding places. Our results suggest that reducing the contact between vector and hosts (biting rates) is as efficient as the logistically difficult but very efficient adult mosquito’s control.

To guarantee QoS for multicast transmission, admission control for multicast sessions is expected. Probe-based multicast admission control (PBMAC) scheme is a scalable and simple approach. However, PBMAC suffers from the subsequent request problem which can significantly reduce the maximum number of multicast sessions that a network can admit. In this letter, we describe the subsequent request problem and propose an enhanced PBMAC scheme to solve this problem. The enhanced scheme makes use of complementary probing and remarking which require only minor modification to the original scheme. By using a fluid-based analytical model, we are able to prove that the enhanced scheme can always admit a higher number of multicast sessions. Furthermore, we present validation of the analytical model using packet based simulation. Copyright © 2005 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers.
