Morfologia radicular da dentição permanente de Sapajus apella: morfometria, anatomia macroscópica, ultraestrutura e propriedades físicas

O objetivo desse trabalho foi contribuir com o estudo anatômico, morfométrico, ultraestrutural e propriedades físicas dos dentes permanentes do primata Sapajus apella. Para tal, foram utilizados 10 animais adultos e machos. Os dentes foram avaliados quanto ao seu comprimento e quanto à anatomia radicular externa e interna considerando número de raízes e canais, forma e direção radicular e forma do canal, assim como análise da densidade e diâmetro tubular do canal radicular, composição e microdureza dentinária. A anatomia radicular desse primata apresentou especificidades, como o número de raízes do segundo pré-molar superior e a presença do terceiro pré-molar. Quanto à densidade e o diâmetro dos túbulos dentinários, observou-se uma diminuição do número e diâmetro de túbulos ao longo do canal radicular, havendo diferença estatisticamente significante ao se comparar o terço apical com as regiões cervical e média, padrão de densidade e tamanho semelhantes a dentes humanos. Semelhanças também foram encontradas com dentes humanos quando comparados os valores de microdureza e proporção de elementos químicos encontrados na dentina radicular.

Avaliação macroscópica e microscópica de implante de Biomembrana em estômago de coelhos (Oryctolagus cuniculus)

In this study, biomembrane of natural latex was utilized to replace a section of the stomach wall of New Zealand rabbits, adult and non-castrated males (n=12), in order to evaluate the tissue repair process in regards to its biocompatility, scar formation ability and possible complications. The animals were euthanized at fifteen, 30 and 60 days post operation, by use of sodium thiopental (200mg kg-1), followed by macroscopic and histopathological analysis of the implant interface with the native tissue. Macroscopically, at fifteen, 30, and 60 days post operation adherence was observed in the serosal wall. At 60 days post operation, the biomembrane is not in the stomach. Under light microscopy, at fifteen and 30 days, discontinuity of muscle layer and mucosa layer, and presence of polimorfonuclear population of inflammatory cells was observed. New vessels and muscle fibers were observed. At 60 days, the mucosa and muscle layers were complete reconstituted. The implants were biocompatible and had provided the mainframe for orientation and development of the tissue layers through repairing processes, thus reestablishing the organ structure.

Refractory Hematuria in an Oliguric Patient After Pancreas Transplantation with Exocrine Pancreas Bladder Drainage

A 52-yr-old man presented with hematuria and clot retention. He had undergone simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation with exocrine pancreas bladder drainage 16 yr ago. The patient suffered from progressive transplant kidney failure with gradually decreasing urine output and needed hemodialysis every other day. Gross hematuria persisted after removal of all blood clots. Cystoscopy showed multiple small, flat ulcers of the bladder mucosa. Some bled discretely and were coagulated cautiously. However, hematuria was refractory to multiple urological interventions, which eventually necessitated an enteric diversion of the exocrine pancreas. Hematuria ceased following an uneventful postoperative course.

Ciprofloxacin-induced hematuria

We used ciprofloxacin, a quinolone-derivative, to treat a lung infection due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in an adult cystic fibrosis patient. On three different occasions the use of ciprofloxacin was associated with the development of an asymptomatic hematuria with red blood cell casts. The mechanism responsible for this hematuria is presently unknown, but clinicians should be aware of this potential adverse effect of ciprofloxacin.
