Calacarus heveaeFeres (Eriophyidae) and Tenuipalpus heveae Baker (Tenuipalpidae) can cause heavy defoliation of rubber tree plants. From the perspective of integrated pest management, resistant clones can be an important strategy. The objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance of rubber tree clones to the attack of mites, in an experiment carried out in Votuporanga, SP. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with eighteen treatments and three replications. The treatments were the clones PB 230, PB 243, PB 252, PB 294, PB 306, PB 311, PB 312, PB 314, PB 324, PB 346, PB 350, PB 355, IAC 56, IAC 302, IAC 328, IAC 334, Fx 3899 and RRIM 600. The evaluation of C. heveae and T. heveae populations was performed by counting mites and exuviae presence in six leaflets per plot. The defoliation levels were evaluated with a score scale, varying from 0 (no defoliation) to 4 (above 75% of defoliation). Based on the results, Fx 3899 clone is resistant through non-preference and/or antibiosis to C. heveae. The IAC 56 clone is less susceptible to defoliation caused by C. heveae and T. heveae infestation.

Five commercial rubber tree clones in a clonal nursery were assessed for resistance to powdery mildew, as well as for the disease fluctuation and its correlation with the climate conditions in the study period. For this assessment, a diagrammatic scale was developed from 150 central leaflets randomly collected at different ages and attack levels. Validation of scale was done by five assessors. Results indicated that all clones showed susceptibility to the pathogen, and the attack was higher for younger leaflets. According to the climate data, mild temperatures and relative humidity below 60% favored the epidemic.

The in vitro mycelial growth of Lentinula edodes strains LE-95/01 and LE-96/18 were evaluated in solid culture media prepared with sawdust extracts from seven eucalyptus species (E. saligna, E. grandis, E. urophylla, E. pellita, E. paniculata, E. citriodora, and E. camaldulensis) and three eucalyptus clones (E. grandis × E. urophylla hybrids). Evaluations were made every 48 hours by means of colony diameter measurements (mean of four transversely-oriented measurements), during ten days of incubation in the dark at 25ºC ±1°C. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks, and treatment means were compared by Tukey test. The culture medium prepared from E. citriodora sawdust extract was the most promising to grow L. edodes strains LE-96/18 and LE-95/01. L. edodes strain LE-96/18 presented the fastest mycelial growth after incubation for ten days, regardless of sawdust extract type used in the culture medium.

The objective of this study was to identify clones of sugarcane with good stability and adaptability in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, and also identifying locations most representative for selection and experimentation. Ten clones and two commercial checks of medium-late maturation were evaluated in the first-ratoon of experiments harvested in August 2009, using bissegmented regression and AMMI (Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction Analysis) methods. The results of two methods were compared and they evidenced that the clones RB975201, RB975157, RB975932, RB975242 and RB975162 are the most promising, showing higher production when compared to the checks, higher stability observed in one or both statistical methods and broader or more specific adaptability. The environment Tarumã presented higher stability and capacity to discriminate genotypes, allowing an ordering more reliable as compared to the overall mean of the environments tested.
