PART STUDY OF PERCEPTION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IN THE LIBRARY COMMUNITY: OPINION (AS) EMPLOYERS (AS) AND GRADUATES (AS) SCHOOL LIBRARY, DOCUMENTATION AND INFORMATION FOR THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

This article provides a brief description of some general aspects of self-evaluation process conducted in the School of Library, Documentation and Information from the National University of Costa Rica, to obtain accreditation from the career of Library and Documentation in 2005 and to achieve re-accreditation in 2009.The objective consists in a comparison between the two evaluation processes from the point of view of two specific sectors, employers and graduates, and presents the views provided by each of them as a partial analysis of the social impact assessment of educational programs in the community librarianship as a first input to raise awareness of the importance of these studies in the institutional and national level.

UPDATE NEEDS OF PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY: Diagnosis of teachers and graduate degree from the School of Library, Documentation and Information (EBDI), National University of Costa Rica

This project is a diagnosis of update needs and training for professionals in bibliotecology and its results will be used for the design of a Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, which will be implemented in Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University.The studied population is composed by all the teachers of Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University, in October, 2007, and all the graduated students of licentiate of the EBDI from 2000 to 2007.The results of this investigation were obtained by means of a questionnaire that was filled by each one of the members of these two populations, who corresponded to 25 teachers of the EBDI and 18 graduates of licentiate. This one also presents the information that was obtained in interviews realized to the managers of the principal institutions who are professionals contracted in bibliotecology.The results obtained of this diagnosis will allow the elaboration of the Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, considering the formative needs of the professionals in bibliotecology of the EBDI. This project includes the following products:a) Description of the social and demographic characteristics of teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.b) Diagnosis of needs to update and training of bibliotecology professional teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.c) Determination of the knowledge and skills that the needs to satisfy what big employers ask for.d) Recommendations for the program. AUTOEVALUACIÓN CON MIRAS A LA ACREDITACIÓN DE LA CARRERA DE BIBLIOTECOLOGÍA Y DOCUMENTACIÓN

En el presente documento se describe la forma en la cual se desarrolló el proceso de autoevaluación con miras a la acreditación de la Carrera de Bibliotecología y Documentación entre 1999-2004, teniendo como base el "Manual de Acreditación" del Sistema Nacional de Acreditación, SINAES. Los criterios que se tomaron en cuenta están relacionados con: Personal académico, Curriculum, Estudiantes, Administración, Infraestructura y Equipo e Impacto y Pertinencia. Se busca con este proceso garantizar calidad a los estudiantes, graduados, empleadores y a la sociedad nacional e internacional.

ResumenEste artículo intenta explorar las relaciones existentes entre trabajadores, empleadores y estado en el período 1900-1943. Reconstruye el marco institucional dentro del cual tiene lugar la dinámica de colisiones y negociaciones entre las partes y caracteriza el proceso de transición que conduce el nuevo orden en las relaciones del trabajo y a la reforma social de los años cuarenta.AbstractThis article explores relations among workers, employers and the State during the years 1900 to 1943. The author reconstructs the institutional framework within which collisions and negotiations among the parties involved occurred. He also characterizes the transition process which led to a mew order in terms of labor relations and social reforms of the 1940s.

Building the Commercial Education Professional Competency Profile

This paper provides a complete description of the Commercial Education Professional Competency Profile that resulted from the curricular diagnosis of the Licenciatura en Educación Comercial , at the Universidad Nacional, Costa Rica.  The methodological strategy used relies on the principles of research on education. Upon expert validation, written questionnaires were applied to first-year students, students of the licenciatura, practicing professionals and employers. The objective was to describe a particular education situation. Data was analyzed according to two categories: intentions/principles and scope/development. The findings resulted in the characteristics of the Commercial Education professionals, i.e. characteristics related to the discipline, characteristics related to the administrative management of teaching, specific and general characteristics of education and pedagogy, and characteristics associated to human development. Based on those criteria, on the curricular requirements of the information sources and on the curricular perspectives of the Academic Unit, ideas were put into practice to build the competency profile. The ideas proposed comprise the curricular fundamentals of the educational project on which the profile is set out, which include the subject of the study program, the global competency or training goal, the generic competencies as cross-cutting approaches, as well as the –pedagogical and disciplinary− specific competencies. The specific competencies of the discipline are focused on four competency areas: document production, organizational support, technological resources and information management.(1) Translator’s Note: One-year post-Bachelor study program in Commercial Education.

INSERCIÓN LABORAL Y LÍNEAS DE TRABAJO DEL GEÓGRAFO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL

Este artículo es resultado del seguimiento a graduados de la carrera de Ciencias Geográficas desde el año 2005. El objetivo general se centró en analizar las tareas que realizan los geógrafos para establecer la correspondencia con el perfil del graduado. Se identificaron 16 líneas de trabajo y las tareas realizadas en cada una de éstas, desde la perspectiva de los graduados. Los resultados indican que el área que emplea mayor número de geógrafos es Ciencias de la Información Geográfica; en tanto el área de enseñanza y divulgación de la Geografía ofrece una oportunidad de complementar el empleo principal. Los empleadores destacan como fortalezas de los geógrafos la formación humanista y en Ciencias de la Información Geográfica, Paisaje, Territorio y Recursos Naturales, Gestión y Ordenamiento del Territorio. AbstractThis article is the result of monitoring graduates who started their careers in geographic sciences from the year 2005. Sixteen jobs and the functions of each of these were identified, from the perspective of the graduates. The general objective centered on analyzing the tasks the geographers performed in order to establish the relationship with the graduate profile.The results indicated that the major field of employment is Geographical Information Sciences, meanwhile the field of teaching and publishing offer an opportunity to complement the primary job. The employers emphasized the humanistic formation and geographic information sciences, landscape, land and natural resources, land management and zoning. It concluded that the tasks carried out are congruent with the profile of the graduateʼs plan of course study.
