Estudo do comportamento parental face à criança com paralisia cerebral

O objectivo deste trabalho é construir uma teoria sobre o comportamento parental de mães de crianças com Paralisia Cerebral. São 13 as mães participantes de crianças com Paralisia Cerebral, com idades compreendidas entre os 2 os 8 anos. Foram efectuadas entrevistas semi-directivas gravadas e posteriormente transcritas, analisadas e codificadas de acordo com o método da Grounded Theory. Constatamos que a preocupação fulcral destas mães centra-se na preocupação com o futuro dos seus filhos e, consequentemente, com tudo o que este acarreta, desde o andar, integração no ambiente escolar e na socialização. Paralelamente a esta preocupação com o futuro surgem os movimentos de luta e de depressão, que se influenciam mutuamente. A preocupação com o futuro destas crianças tem origem, desde logo, nos problemas de saúde detectados após o parto, num diagnóstico demorado e impreciso, ou num prognóstico impreciso que confundem estas mães acerca da atitude de como se hão-de posicionar face à nova realidade, onde podem tomar uma posição de luta, esperança e coragem contra esta enorme adversidade, ou deixarem-se tomar por esta e cair numa depressão profunda.

The purpose of this study is to build a theory about the behaviour of mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy. The participants are thirteen mothers of children with Cerebral Palsy, whose ages ranged from two to eight years old. Semi-structured interviews were used and taped, having been subsequently transcribed, analysed in accordance with the Grounded Theory method. Was verified that the major concern of these mothers it’s related with the concern that surrounds the future of their children and consequently , in all that is related with it, such as walking, integration the school environment and with the socialization. Parallely, with this concern about the future appears the struggle and the depression movements that influence each other mutually. The concern with the future of these children has origin in the health complications detected after the birth and was based in a lengthy and unclear diagnosis or in a lengthy prognosis that confuses these mothers about the attitude that they can manage to face this new reality either by a position of fight, hope and courage against this enormous adversity or by letting themselves go and fall into a deep depression.
