Erziehung zur Gleichheit. Mathilde Franziska Annekes Töchter-Institut in Milwaukee und ihr Eintreten für Rechte der Frauen

Im Zentrum der vorliegenden Untersuchung steht das 1865 gegründete Töchter-Institut Mathilde Franziska Annekes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dieses Schulprojekt der Achtundvierzigerin und Frauenrechtlerin wird verglichen mit Bildungsreformansätzen der Amerikanerin Catherine Beecher sowie solchen deutscher Pädagogen. Zum einen soll dabei die Besonderheit von Annekes Konzept herausgearbeitet werden, zum anderen soll der Stellenwert der Schule in den Frauenrechtsaktivitäten von Anneke beleuchtet werden. Die Analyse der sozialen Herkunft ihrer Schülerinnenschaft ergibt eine Neubewertung von Annekes Stellung als Frauenrechtlerin in Milwaukee. (DIPF/Orig.)

The article focusses on the secondary school for girls founded by Mathilde Franziska Anneke in 1865, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This school project of the forty-eighter and Suffragette is compared with the approaches to educational reform developed by the American Catherine Beecher and with those of other German pedagogues. On the one hand, this is to show the peculiarity of Anneke's concept and, on the other, the school's rank in Anneke's feminist activities is to be revealed. The analysis of the social background of her student body leads to a reassessment of Anneke's position as women's rights activist in Milwaukee. (DIPF/Orig.)
