Resumo

A treatise on the principle of "commanding right and forbidding wrong" in Islam.

Title from f. 1r.

Written in a left leaning naskh hand in black ink, in one column rubricated in red, 19 lines per page. The text on ff. 1v, 2r and 31r is framed within double red lines. There are catchwords on the verso of each folio.

Light-cream laid paper with watermarks. 21 x 15-15.4 cm. (15.8 x 7.8 cm.).

According to the colophon (f. 31r), copied from an autograph copy by Aḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Ṣafadī, Imām of Darwīsh Bāshā mosque in Damascus. Copy completed in Rabīʻ al-awwal 1069 AH [December 1658 AD].

Most probably copied in Damascus.

Ownership statement by Muḥammad ʻUmar Nūr al-Dīn al-Ghazzī al-ʻĀmirī al-Shāfiʻī (f. 1r).

Apparently the book was originally bound in a "Majmūʻah" with 19 other treatises before it was separated from the group. Titles of those books are written on f. 1r in a different hand with a note: "ʻadad rasāʼil hādhā al-majmūʻ ʻishrūn."

The title is not mentioned in Brockelmann, GAL, II, 291; and GAL-S, II, 402.
